What is an AED?

An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is a portable electronic device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and deliver an electric shock to restore a normal heartbeat if someone is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Why are AEDs important?

AEDs are crucial in saving lives during sudden cardiac emergencies. They provide an immediate response when someone’s heart suddenly stops beating effectively. Quick access to an AED, along with CPR, significantly increases the chances of survival.

Where can you find AEDs in Miami Lakes?

AEDs are installed in the following locations in cases and display the AED symbol.

Health Emergency Life Protection (HELP) Training Course

The Health Emergency Life Protection (HELP) course, hosted in partnership Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, gives individuals the skills to take immediate action to help victims of medical emergencies while responders are on the way.

HELP teaches the basic lifesaving skills of adult and pediatric hands-only CPR, early stroke recognition, stopping the bleed, and blocked airway emergencies for adults, children, and infants.
