Kids of all ages are invited to Nightmare on Montrose Saturday, October 29th beginning at the haunting hour of 5 pm at Miami Lakes Picnic Park West, 15151 NW 82nd Ave., in Miami Lakes. The free event will feature pumpkin decorating, costume contest, costume parade for the little ghosts and ghouls, music, food trucks and more frightening activities!  The Costume Contest will begin at 6:30pm, and the scare zone will frighten guests between the hours of 7:30pm–9:30pm.

The Town and its Youth Activities Task Force will be collecting Halloween decorations and costume donations which can be dropped off at Royal Oaks Park, 16500 NW 87th Avenue.  Please call 305-698-9308 or email Labossierek@miamilakes-fl.gov  to schedule a drop off for the donation.

The Town and its Elderly Affairs Committee are offering free field trips for Miami Lakes residents 55 years and above. The next field trip is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2nd to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

Fairchild is one of the premier conservation and education-based gardens in the world and is dedicated to exploring, explaining and conserving the world of tropical plants with one of the world's greatest living collection of palms and cycads. Considered one of the best botanic gardens in the world, in addition to exploring the gardens visitors can: enjoy waterfront dining, and shop a unique selection of gifts, educational children’s toys, jewelry, apparel, and home and garden tools with an eco-friendly, tropical flair that will ensure you take your Fairchild experience home with you.

Transportation is provided to and from Town Hall. The bus will depart from Town Hall at 10:30am. Space is limited and reservations are required. Reservations will open on Monday, October 24th and remain open until all seats are filled. Across the span of thirty plus years, the Town of Miami Lakes has saluted Veterans with the longest running parade in all of Miami-Dade County. This year, the Town and its Veterans Affairs Committee will host its 38th Annual Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 5th.

Sponsored in part by the Graham Companies, this patriotic parade features more than 3,000 participants including active-duty and retired military, veterans’ groups, local high school and middle school marching bands, JROTC units and more! If you or your organization is interested in participating in the 2017 Veterans Day Parade, please submit an application by Wednesday, October 25th.

The parade can be viewed from multiple locations along Ludlam Road from Bull Run Road to Eagles Nest. Join the Town of Miami Lakes as we honor true American heroes; our veterans and active-duty military. Parade watchers are encouraged to show their support by wearing red, white and blue, as well as by waving flags as the parade participants go by.

The Town of Miami Lakes and its Elderly Affair Committee will be hosting a Thanksgiving social on Wednesday, November 16th at Town Hall located at 6601 Main Street in Miami Lakes. As the Oktoberfest social was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew, the Thanksgiving social will allow seniors to socialize with their Miami Lakes family and reflect on the many things to be thankful for. Event is sponsored in part by Coventry – Aetna. The Elderly Affairs Committee will be collecting canned goods for the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church food drive.
