Miami Lakes Gears Up for the 2023 Hurricane Season: Are You Ready?
Miami Lakes, F.L. – With the 2023 hurricane season fast approaching, the Town of Miami Lakes is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. Take a look at the resources and programs on offer, here to make sure you and your loved ones are taken care of when hurricane season begins June 1. Miami-Dade County 2023 Hurricane Guide
Hurricane Season is from June 1 to November 30. Be sure to plan and prepare ahead of time. Read a list of commonly used hurricane terms and learn about the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
2023 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays
During the 2023 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Floridians can purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies exempt from tax. The first exemption period runs from May 27 to June 9. The second exemption period will begin Saturday, August 26 and run through September 8. For more information, and a list of qualifying items, visit floridarevenue.com/DisasterPrep.
Jerry's Squad
Are you a Miami Lakes senior or disabled resident in need of assistance with hurricane preparations for hurricane season? If you are, we would like you to know about the Jerry's Squad program offered by the Town of Miami Lakes.
With the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season beginning June 1st, our applications for Jerry's Squad—a Hurricane Preparedness Assistance Program for disabled or elderly residents that require assistance when Miami Lakes is under hurricane warnings—are now open.
To aid in this effort, the program is also in need of volunteers to assist with Jerry's Squad and its preparations. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must also submit applications.

When you sign up with ALERTMiamiLakes you can select to receive not only emergency alerts that affect your area but also alerts for weather warnings, community events and more. You tell us how you want to receive your alerts, sign up with your cell phone to receive calls and/or text messages, your email address(es), home phone, business phone and hearing-impaired device.
Miami Lakes encourages you to download the Everbridge Public Safety app (free in the iOS, Android and Windows app stores), this app will not only allow you to receive Miami Lakes alerts, but other public alerts issued across the State and Country by other emergency officials. Do you travel or live in an area outside of Miami Lakes? No problem, the app will allow you to see other events that might impact your travel plans.
