Overview
The Town of Miami Lakes incorporated in December of 2000 and has contracted the services of the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for law enforcement since its inception. The MDPD provides uniformed patrol services that include high visibility patrol and responding to calls for service by the town residents.
Neighborhood Resources Unit (NRU), in addition to traffic enforcement and high visibility patrols, provides traffic control for students’ drop-offs and dismissals from five area schools. The General Investigations Unit (GIU) provides investigative follow-up support and investigates residential and commercial burglaries, vehicle burglaries, auto thefts, assaults, and thefts. As part of the GIU, the Neighborhood Traffic Unit (NTU) addresses afternoon and evening traffic concerns, as well as assisting detectives with follow-up investigations.
The Miami-Dade Police Department supports the Town of Miami Lakes by providing specialized services such as the Special Response Team, K-9, Bomb Disposal Unit, Divers, Forensic Services Bureau, Homicide Bureau, Robbery Bureau, Special Victims Bureau, Economic Crimes Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, and the Sherriff Services Bureau.
