Dear Miami Lakers,

Several months ago I made a promise to you all. A promise to open the doors to Town Hall on Saturday so my office can hear directly from the people and provide more accessibility to our residents. That promise will be fulfilled.

Every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, my office will be open to the public from 9am to 1pm. Either myself or my assistant Joseph Sosa will be present to personally hear your concerns, comments or suggestions on how we can continue to improve the quality of life for Miami Lakers.

When we all share information and debate ideas, our entire community wins. My goal is to work with you all to find solutions and move our Town forward.

Regards,
Mayor Manny Cid

Miami Lakes canines and their owners have been eagerly wagging their tails awaiting the opening of the planned Miami Lakes off-leash dog recreation area. The Town of Miami Lakes is pleased to announce the grand opening of K-9 Cove will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 10-11am.

In anticipation of the opening, the Town sponsored a contest to name the new recreation area. While there were several creative submissions, “K-9 Cove” submitted Miami Lakes resident Damian Hernandez was selected as the winner by the Friends of the Dog Recreation Area Group.

K-9 Cove is located at 14048 Palmetto Frontage Rd (NW 77 CT) and features both a passive recreational area and two separate fenced areas for smaller and larger dogs. The area will include benches, drinking fountains for dogs, and a joint open-air shelter for pet owners. In addition, the site incorporates a portion of the proposed 10’ wide bike trail along the south side of Palmetto Frontage Road.

Several of the Town’s animal care professionals will also be in attendance to distribute materials and free giveaways including Dog House Miami and the Miami Lakes Veterinary Clinic.

Interested in helping to improve our community’s road infrastructure? Join the Town of Miami Lakes and its Transportation Department for a Complete Streets Design Workshop on Monday, Ocotber 2nd beginning at 6pm at Town Hall, 6601 Main Street.

Complete Streets Initiatives include infrastructure enhancements that implement additional pedestrian and bike improvements to give all users a greater share of the right-of-way. The specific improvements can vary from pavement markings to new physical barriers built between travel lanes and bike pedestrian pathways. Ultimately the improvements are done to increase safety while not compromising traffic flow.

The recommendations were developed in coordination with the Miami-Dade County Complete Streets Design Guidelines Program. The proposed design guidelines are customized to fit the context of the identified Miami Lakes street typology and are focused on providing multimodal roadway improvements that take into consideration all users.

During the workshop, the Town will provide an overview of complete streets components, present existing conditions of the roadway characteristics within the Town, and present examples of concepts for select corridors.

The Town encourages residents to join so we may work together to improve our streets to accommodate all users from pedestrians to bicyclist to transit riders and motorist.

For more information on the Town’s planned transportation improvements, please visit www.miamialkes-fl.gov/mobility
