COMING TO A PARK NEAR YOU...

The Town of Miami Lakes excited to kick off a new recreation programming initiative called “Rec 2 U,” aimed at bringing several of the Town's youth programs right to your neighborhood! 

Come join us for a fun-filled summer of free recreation activities. The purpose is toget kids out of the house by providing them with an opportunity to participate in recreational activities at locations all across Town. Each week, the Town’s Recreation Programs team will be at a different neighborhood park from 6-7:30pm with activities, games and equipment for youth and teens.

Week 3 (August 22nd) – Southeast area: Corner of Mahogany Court & Maple Terrace

Bring your neighbors, and walk or ride your bike to one of the selected parks and play for the afternoon. Ages 5-17 are welcome.  No need to register, just show up! For information, please contact Daniel Waite, Recreation Specialist, via email at waited@miamilakes-fl.gov or at (305) 819-7768.

Summer Senior fun continues with the Lunch Bunch & Bingo series, sponsored by Chen Medical and Avmed. Come socialize and make new friends while having fun and enjoy nutritious lunches provided by local restaurant Giardino Gourmet Salads.

Join the Town and its Elderly Affairs Committee at Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 NW 82 Avenue from 11am-1:30pm on the following dates in August:

Wednesday, August 9th - sponsored by Chen Medical
Wednesday, August 23rd - sponsored by Avmed

Permission to come aboard for the Town of Miami Lakes and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary boating safety classes! The classes are taught by experienced instructors who are committed to the highest standards of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The class is $25 per person and includes a FREE manual. The courses will cover the following topics:

  • Know your boat
  • Before you get underway
  • Navigating the waterways
  • Operating your vessel -safely
  • Boating emergencies what to do
  • Enjoying water sports with your boat

Summer courses will be held at the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 NW 82nd Avenue on Saturday, August 26th and October 21st, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

The Town of Miami Lakes and its Elderly Affairs Committee (EAC) concludes its 11th Annual Senior Games Series with some slam dunk fun! Come out and join the Basketball Free Throw, Three Point Shoot, and Cornhole Competitions starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 26th at Shula’s Athletic Club, 15150 Bull Run Rd.

Senior Games participants will receive a snazzy t-shirt and medals will be awarded to winners in each age division for the male and female groups.

This will be the FINAL activity in the Senior Games for this season. Stay tune for updates for the 2017-2018 Senior Games series schedule!

Miami Lakes Seniors: Don’t miss your last chances to root for the home team during the “Wellmax Senior Thursday” Miami Marlins game vs Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, September 28th.

FREE transportation will be provided by the Town of Miami Lakes and its Elderly Affairs Committee (EAC) for Town of Miami Lakes residents 65 years and above.

PLEASE NOTE NEW DEPARTURE LOCATION: The bus will depart from the Mary Collins Community Center, 15151 NW 82 Avenue at 4:30 PM.

Space is limited and reservations are required. To reserve seating on the bus, please contact Ashley Shepple, Community Engagement Outreach Specialist, at shepplea@miamilakes-fl.gov or (305) 364-6100. Reservation opportunities will open one week prior to the game, and will remain open until all seats are filled.

This will be the last Marlins field trip of the season.
