Case Against Town Dismissed

Miami Lakes, FL -Former Miami Lakes Mayor Michael Pizzi’s lawsuit against the Town of Miami Lakes has been dismissed in Court. Pizzi sued the Town to cover his legal fees associated with his federal criminal case, approximately $2.5 million.

In dismissing the law suit the Court found that Pizzi was not acting in an official capacity or serving a public purpose when charged with bribery and conspiracy to commit extortion in 2014. In the Order Granting the Amended Motion to Dismiss, Circuit Court Judge Antonio Marin cited case law Thornber v. City of Ft. Walton Beach 568 So 2d 914, 917 (Fla 1990); ‘For public officials to be entitled to representation at public expense the litigation must arise out of or in connection with the performance of their official duties and serve a public purpose’.

The Court granted Pizzi 20 days to file an amended complaint.
