Miami Lakes, FL - The Town of Miami Lakes Town Council proclaimed November 7 as Key Club Day. Hundreds of Key Club members from local schools including the Miami Lakes Educational Center, Barbara Goleman Senior High, Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High, American Senior High, Mater Lakes Academy, Jose Marti Mast Academy, and Hialeah Gardens Senior High gathered at the steps of Town Hall to drop off food they collected to feed the homeless.
Over the past few weeks, students had been collecting food at their respective schools in honor of Key Club Week, November 2-6, celebrated worldwide. The result was dozens of boxes filled with canned goods to help the less fortunate.
Key Club International, the high school service club sponsored by Kiwanis International, encompassing more than 5,000 clubs and nearly 270,000 members in 30 countries, performs more than 12 million service hours annually, such as this food drive. “There is no more heartwarming site than to see our local high school students working with the Kiwanis Club to feed the homeless. Kudos to a great organization and to these wonderful youngsters,” said Mayor Michael Pizzi.
