Town to Partner with Local Charity for Thanksgiving Shoe Drive

Miami Lakes, FL - The Town of Miami Lakes and Loving Soles will partner for the third year in a row in an effort to collect shoes for the needy. The local charity, dedicated to putting shoes on the feet of those that need them most, founded by Tony Garcia, Dr. Daryl Gershbein, Dr. John McGoohan, and Ileana McGoohan's teenage children, will donate the shoes to Camillus House.

Gently worn shoes can be dropped at Town Hall throughout the month of November, just in time for Thanksgiving. The closing ceremony will take place at 10 am on Saturday, November 21 at Town Hall, 6601 Main Street.

Councilman Tony Lama, who introduced this initiative in 2013, stated, “Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, have seen an uptick in the number of homeless that have moved from living in shelters to living on the street. This proves we have some work to do! We collected 500 pairs of shoes for the homeless in 2013, and over 1500 pairs in 2014. We are the most generous nation in the history of man and we all have a duty to help our fellow brothers and sisters. I know we can count on Miami Lakes to make in impact on the lives of these individuals and exceed our 2014 number!"
