Miami Lakes, FL - On Tuesday, September 1 at the Town Council Meeting, the Miami Lakes Town Council unanimously passed a motion to continue classes offered to seniors. Funding for the programs had been cut during the legislative conference session.
Thanks to the Elderly Affairs Committee that have requested to move funds from their committee budget to allow for classes to continue throughout the month of September until a permanent funding solution is found. Arts and Crafts, Knitting and Crocheting, Sewing, Tai Chi and Computers will begin again after the Labor Day holiday.
In the past, Miami-Dade County Public Schools applied for a grant from the State and the monies were distributed to various schools to provide senior programming throughout the County. Miami Lakes courses were previously provided through the dollars given to Hialeah Adult Education Center. A long term funding alternative is still being pursued by all governmental agencies.
