The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
In front of Town Hall, Mayor Michael Pizzi delivered the opening prayer and read a proclamation naming May 7 as National Day of Prayer in the Town of Miami Lakes. Keynote speaker was Pastor Stuart Bodin from Miami Lakes Methodist Church and prayers for the seven centers of power government, military, media, business, church, education and family were given by leaders of various religious organizations. Town resident Silvia Ivelisse sang her rendition of God Bless America.
