Miami Lakes, FL - In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Miami Lakes Town Hall has been lit up blue throughout the month of April. The Town kicked off its participation for Light It Up Blue World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 with staff wearing blue and illuminating Town Hall into a shade of blue.
At the April 14 Town Council meeting, a proclamation was presented designating the month of April as “Autism Awareness Month” in Miami Lakes with the Mayor and Town Council, Town Manager, Town Clerk and Town Attorney all wearing blue polo shirts on the dais.
Oscar Amuz from Hope for Autism Soccer and Dr. Michael Alessandri from the Miami Lakes branch of the University of Miami–Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities attended the Town Council meeting in support of the Town’s efforts for Autism Awareness Month.
“The Town of Miami Lakes is honored to join the efforts taking place around the world during the month of April to increase Autism awareness,” Mayor Wayne Slaton said. “Autism has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies around the world. By proclaiming the month of April as Autism Awareness Month in the Town of Miami Lakes, we honor those living with this disorder and their families as well as local organizations and professionals dedicated to enhancing their quality of life.”
