Public Invited to Local Mitigation Strategy Quarterly Meeting on Sept. 17

Miami Lakes, FL - The public and all working group members are welcome to attend the next Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) Quarterly meeting from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014 at the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Training Facility, 2nd Floor Auditorium, 9300 NW 41st Street, in Doral.

At the meeting, a draft of the updated LMS will be open for public comment and an overview of the plan will be presented.

Every five years, Miami-Dade County is required to submit an update of the LMS to the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review. The LMS is designed to address risks and vulnerabilities and identify and track mitigation measures that community stakeholders have identified to lessen the impacts of disasters on our community.

The committee, in which the Town of Miami Lakes is actively involved, guides the preparation of the Miami-Dade County LMS to reduce the community’s long term risk of people and properties from the effects of natural disasters.

The County encourages any interested citizens and business owners to attend and provide feedback on significant issues addressed at the meeting.

A draft of the plan will be available online for public comment by September 17 and comments can be sent to mdlms@miamidade.gov. Please visit the Miami-Dade County’s LMS website at http://www.miamidade.gov/fire/mitigation.asp for more information.
