“Within the next few weeks, the Town will be breaking ground on our state-of-the-art designed Optimist Park Clubhouse,” Town of Miami Lakes Mayor Wayne Slaton said. “We are excited about the amenities that this new facility will provide to our sports teams and all our athletic programming. This is just the beginning of our total redesign and long awaited makeover for our ball park. We look forward to having a first-class facility, our residents deserve it.”
The new Clubhouse, a 5,000 square-foot multi-purpose facility includes multi-purpose rooms, concession stand, administrative offices, and the project will include additional parking. The highlight of the facility will be the Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame, initiated by Vice Mayor Manny Cid and funded through a private sponsorship donation. The Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame will commemorate professional sports figures that have lived or live in the Miami Lakes area. The project is slated for completion in late summer 2015.
"I recall playing on the fields at the Optimist Park as a Youth," Town of Miami Lakes Vice Mayor Manny Cid said. "We all looked forward to visiting the clubhouse after our games for a slice of pizza and a soda. These great memories are what being a kid in Miami Lakes is all about. Our Council has a commitment to making our Town a better place for future generations and the new Optimist Park Clubhouse will yield many great memories for Miami Lakes' families."
The new Clubhouse marks the first phase of the proposed future development of the Town’s largest active park. Future plans that are proposed include the realignment of the ball fields, central concession stand, reconstruction of the basketball/tennis courts and new ball field lighting system.
