Town Announces YMCA Summer Camp Signups this Saturday

Miami Lakes, FL - The Town of Miami Lakes is pleased to announce that it will offer a YMCA Summer Camp Program this year from June 9 through August 15, Mondays to Fridays from 7 am to 6 pm at the Roberto Alonso Community Center,  16500 NW 87th Avenue.

The Town and the YMCA of Greater Miami will hold a Super Saturday Sign-Up Day on Saturday, May 3rd from 10 am to 1 pm at the Roberto Alonso Community Center where participants can register. Cost is $115 per week with a one-time $45 registration fee, yet the fee will be waived for that day.

The YMCA Summer Camp is open to children ages 5 to 12 years old and will offer a sports and dance component along with a wide spectrum of events including sing-a-longs, arts and crafts, reading and learning, sports and games, field trips, and swim days.

The Champion Sports Camp will teach the basic fundamentals of a wide variety of sports including basketball, soccer, baseball, football and more.  Campers will learn the value of teamwork and sportsmanship in both a positive and non-competitive environment.

The Dance Express! Camp will teach modern, jazz and hip-hop routines to the latest selection of music.  Campers will also participate in an end of the summer performance.

β€œIt is important to continually engage the minds of our youth between school years and encourage healthy social habits that will help them succeed in their present lives and well into the future,” Councilman Frank Mingo said. β€œPrograms such as the YMCA Summer Camp offer the opportunity to develop and reinforce positive social skills and keep our kids active physically and intellectually."

Registration is ongoing and participants may register by calling the YMCA of Greater Miami at (305) 357-6622.  For more information on other Town of Miami Lakes summer programs, please contact Katya Lysak, Leisure Services Manager, at lysakk@miamilakes-fl.gov or (305) 698-9308.
