Miami Lakes, FL -  The Town’s Mayor and Council recently voted unanimously to proclaim April as Autism Awareness Month in the Town. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 88 American children are diagnosed with Autism.

Mayor Wayne Slaton encourages residents and key community stakeholders to observe this month by generating awareness of Autism, supporting local program that serve families and those touched by autism and ultimately help foster a more inclusive community that enhances employment opportunities for those living with developmental disabilities.

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, Town of Miami Lakes staff wore blue on Wednesday, April 2 to participate in Light it Up Blue, a unique global initiative that kicks-off Autism Awareness Month and helps raise awareness about autism.
