Town of Miami Lakes Veterans Committee to Hold
Flag Retirement Ceremony at Future Town Hall Veterans Memorial Site

Miami Lakes, FL -  On Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10am, the Town of Miami Lakes, the Veteran's Committee, Miami Lakes Boy Scout Troop 566, American Legion Post 144, and Girl Scout Troop 237 will be holding a flag retirement ceremony on the future site of the Veteran's Memorial in front of Town Hall.

The flag retirement ceremony begins by cutting flags that are torn, faded, and frayed into pieces; separating the red stripes, white stripes andthe blue star field. Once a small wood burning fire is formed, the remnant pieces of the flag are ready for retirement. Separately, the remnant pieces of the flag are burned, each piece symbolizing our nation. The ashes are then collected and buried.

If you have a worn-out, tattered, discolored flag ready to be retired, please drop off at Town Hall, Room 208, located at 6601 Main Street, MiamiLakes. For questions, please contact John Baron, at baronj@miamilakes-fl.gov or 305-364-6100.
