MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS AND WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT’S CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING

Residents who receive curbside waste collection service from Miami-Dade County can recycle their Christmas trees by taking them to one of the County’s Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs)* or the West Miami-Dade Home Chemical Collection Center.

All trees brought in for recycling must be free of tree stands, lights, ornaments, tinsel and other decorations.  The trees will be converted into mulch, available free to service area residents on a first-come, first-served basis beginning in mid-January, 2014.

Trees can be brought in for recycling to one of the locations listed below:

Trash and Recycling Centers (open seven days a week, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)

  • North Dade Landfill - 21500 NW 47 Ave.
  • Norwood - 19901 NW 7 Ave.

Christmas Tree Mulch Availability

Christmas tree mulch will be available at the following six locations beginning in mid-January 2014, for service area residents to pick up using their own bags or containers, on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

  • West Perrine - 16651 SW 107 Ave.
  • Eureka Drive - 9401 SW 184 St.
  • Moody Drive - 12970 SW 268 St.
  • Sunset Kendall - 8000 SW 107 Ave.
  • West Little River - 1830 NW 79 St.
  • North Dade Landfill - 21500 NW 47 Ave.

Other Disposal Options

Residents who choose not to drop off their Christmas tree have the following two options:

  1. Residents may cut the tree into smaller pieces and place it inside their green waste cart for collection on any of their regularly scheduled waste collection days.  The tree must fit entirely inside the waste cart.  Trees placed next to the waste cart cannot be collected by the automated waste collection truck.
  2. For those residents who cannot drop off their Christmas tree for recycling or cut it in pieces and place it in their waste cart, the tree may be placed at the curbside no later than Tuesday, January 7, 2014, and it will be picked up.  Customers are asked to be patient as tree collection crews will be covering a great deal of territory.  Christmas trees placed at the curbside after January 7th will not be picked up and must either be dropped off or placed in the green waste cart for collection as described above.
