Start Smart Program to Begin January 7th

Miami Lakes, FL -  The Town of Miami Lakes announces the new start date for the Start Smart Development Program. Over 100 children ages 3 to 5 years old have participated in the Start Smart Sports Development Program over the last several years. The proven instructional program prepares children for the world of organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents work together with their children in a supportive environment to learn all of the basic skills...throwing, catching, kicking, and batting.

The 7 week course will begin on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 and will take place every Tuesday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Royal Oaks Park located at 16500 NW 87th Avenue. Registration is $14 per child for the 7 sessions. Space is limited and registration is on a first come first served basis. Registration will take place on Saturday, January 4th from 8 am to 2 pm at the Miami Lakes Optimist Park Marina located 6411 NW 162nd Street. Parents or guardians must register in person by providing a copy of their child's birth certificate and paying the registration fee by check.

"We want to encourage our children to engage in organized sports and not feel intimidated. I learned many great lessons playing organized sports as a child that I have been able to apply to my personal and professional life: leadership, perseverance, and team-work to name a few," said Councilman Tony Lama.
