"Lock It or Lose It" Campaign Results

Miami Lakes, FL - In May of 2016, Councilman Ceasar Mestre, in partnership with the Town’s Public Safety Committee and Police Department, spearheaded the “Lock or Lose It” awareness campaign aimed to encourage the community to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables.

The Town of Miami Lakes Police enacted a variety of investigative and proactive efforts. Additionally, informational flyers on how to prevent these crimes were disseminated by Town police officers during calls for service, business contacts, and homeowner associations’ presentations. As a result, the Town of Miami Lakes and its Police Department is proud to report a 20% reduction in vehicle burglaries in 2016.

Removing valuables from your cars and locking your doors may seem simple enough, but many residents simply forget or get sidetracked due the stress of the daily life. The theft of your purse, wallet, or documents with sensitive information could also result in identity theft. These crimes can be prevented by simply locking homes, garage doors, windows, and vehicles.

See something or someone suspicious? Please report incidents at any time to the Town of Miami Lakes Police non-emergency line at (305) 476-5423; for emergencies, always dial 911. We want all of our residents to be safe!
